You see it in the news: Baker kills his best friend.
- You immediately think, crazy person or psycho! How can you kill your best friend?
- But is it possible to be more to the story that you don't know?
- What if it was an accident? He was trying to protect his friend, shot the bad guy but the bullet still hit his friend and he ended up dieing.
- Or what if it was self-defense? (maybe something crazy happened and they got in a fight).
- So now we have three possible scenarios. Which one is right?
- Notice that if you don't think at all you would be stuck with the only view that the shooter was crazy.
- Turns out that they went to a bar with a group of friends and the "best friend" was messing around with the Baker's wife. After much talking the drunk "best friend" persisted until they got in a fight. The drunk friend tried to kill the Baker and his wife, and the Baker in self defense shot the drunk friend.
- Now that we know these facts the story is completely different from the first impression we had.
- It's crucial to see the bigger picture before getting bogged down in one scene or detail in the story that could lead us to the wrong conclusion.
Similarly is the Bible...
