Shoot-a-thon at BIS. Support our archery team!

Shoot-a-thon at BIS
(fundraiser)

The BIS archery team is raising money to buy more bows and arrows for next season. We would like to ask you to participate in our shoot-a-thon fund raiser (this is optional).

This is how it works, you would choose an archer to sponsor, and your donation will be determined by the archer's score on the shoot-a-ton. You can choose to donate: $1 per point scored or $0.50 per point scored or $0.10 per point scored.

For example: Suppose you chose to sponsor Sarah for $0.50 per point scored. If she scores 90 points than you would donate $45  (90 x 0.50 = 45).
Students will shoot 30 arrows (15 arrows from 10m distance and 15 arrows from 15m distance). The maximum score per arrow is 10 points, and the maximum score for the whole competition is 300. Most of our archers score between 70 and 150 points (so far this year).

Want to participate? The archers shot their arrows on May 16, but we have not added their scores yet. So fill out your form (if you would like to participate – this is optional) and we'll contact you next week to inform you of your archer's score. Then you can send the appropriate donation to BIS J. Thanks for your support!

Note: Donations can be made in Reais (if you are in Brazil) or in U.S. Dollars (if you are in the United States). If you are in Brazil, please send your donations (at the appropriate time) to BIS. If you are in the U.S. you can donate via the website: www.nics.org , click on the following links Donate > Single Donation > School Project > BIS  > Archery (for other project).

To participate fill out the form below and send it to the BIS office, or email your choices to coachbatista@gmail.com. We will contact you once we have all the scores added.

How can you avoid disaster in your life?

Excellent message for all people, specially if you are going to college or moving to a new place.

Nobody plans to enter into a violent marriage. Nobody plans to ruin his or her finances. Nobody plans to struggle with an addiction. What steps do you take to make sure these things don't happen? Set up guardrails. You can tell yourself that you'll "be careful." Well, setting up guardrails is how you "be careful."

Archery video

Priscila goes 5 for 5. With five arrows she hit five targets!
Also congratulations to Sarah for hitting the apple that was hanging from a stringing! That was the grand prize. And good job to all other archers who also hit the watermelon. I counted at least 10 wholes in just one side of the watermelon. By the way, it still tasted good the next day : )

Alg 2 HW from lesson 1.

Do this + Lesson 3 - adjustments for volatility, and life stages.

Lesson 1 due yesterday. Lesson 3 due Monday before class.

Financial independence planning – an inverse relation.

EQ 04/29 – What is the relationship between Time, Money and Rate in financial investing. Which would you value most?

Note – you will do all these calculations on the same spreadsheet, so you can easily copy and paste and use formulas.

Lesson 1

Find:
-       Desired annual income.
-       Total amount needed.
-       Make 30 year plan.
o    i =p * r * t    or Ammount = p + (p*r)
o    the first year  at 10% you can make p *1.10 = Amount 1.
o    Use Amount 1 as "p" to find Amount2   >> which would be how much you've accumulated by the second year.
o    Do this patterns for 30 years.

Read
Matthew 6:19-21
Treasures in Heaven
19 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

1-     1- Look at your 30 year plan. How much do you have to have stored up to be financially independent? Should you really do this plan and save all that money? Answer this question.

Read:
Matthew 25:14-30
New International Version (NIV)
The Parable of the Bags of Gold
14 "Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15 To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag,[a] each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16 The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. 17 So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. 18 But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money.
19 "After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. 20 The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.'
21 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'
22 "The man with two bags of gold also came. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.'
23 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'
24 "Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. 'Master,' he said, 'I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.'
26 "His master replied, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
28 "'So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. 29 For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'
Footnotes:
Matthew 25:15 Greek five talents … two talents … one talent; also throughout this parable; a talent was worth about 20 years of a day laborer's wage.

2-     2- Does this passage sound contradicting to the previous passage and answer you gave on the previous question? How?

3-     3-  How can you honestly follow both of these Biblical principles? How can you not store up treasures on Earth and be a good steward of what God has entrusted you?

4-    4-  If your investments goes down 5%, how much does it have to go back up for you to have your original principal again? What if it goes down 10%, 20%, 30% and 50%. Make a chart.

Trigonometry and Transformations

Above is a nice
introduction to trigonometry. This talks about Sine, Cosine, Tangent.

Below is a video about Transformations in Geometry (also studied in pre-algebra). This talks about Reflections, Translations, and Dilation of figures in a coordinate plane.
